Memorial Day Activites Continue

A big thank you to everyone who came out this morning for Operation Flag at Union Cemetery. We had a great turnout and the rain held off.  I overheard great comments from some of the scouts including things like, "We can't miss any veteran so we need to double check rows." And "I like reading all the headstones. It's so interesting!"

Don't forget about the Memorial Day Parade in Worthington this Monday.  The weather is supposed to be good, so if you're in town, it will be a great morning to walk.

Cub Scout Pack 74 will meet at Hartford Park on North Morning St at around 9:30am. We are Staging Number 221, but Marching number 97, which is almost last. We'll be standing there for a while in the staging area. Patrick Long might bring a frisbee and a football or something to keep scouts occupied while we wait. Please note that streets to the east and south will be closed, so consult the street closings map from Patrick's email when you make your arrival plan.

WEAR YOUR FULL UNIFORM. Or as close as you can make it. Class A shirts. Dark blue pants or shorts (if not, green or khaki, jeans as last resort). Find your scout hat. If you want to wear the new kit that you received at the campout, please do so. And don't forget your sunscreen!

Finally, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about the Honor Flight we will be greeting on June 10th. You'll see more detailed information about this event next week, but since we have veterans and fallen soldiers on our minds this weekend, why not take the time to make some thank you cards for the veterans we will be greeting.  There are 86 veterans on the flight, so we need lots of cards!! Please make sure to include Pack 74 in the signature.

PLEASE DROP YOUR CARDS OFF AT OVERBROOK CHURCH (parking lot) ON JUNE 5th BETWEEN 7-8 PM!!

Have a great holiday weekend!

June Summer Fun

Consider this your "save the date" for some upcoming fun in June.

We are hoping to head to the airport on June 10th in full uniform to greet veterans returning home from an Honor Flight.  What's an Honor Flight, you ask? You can find out more here! Honor Flight Columbus  Stay tuned for more details but please note that the June 10th flight is scheduled to arrive at John Glenn International Airport at 9:15 PM, so this will be a night event.

Looking for a great excuse to hang out with Dad on Father's Day weekend? How about going fishing? Plans are in the works for a fishing outing at a local metro park - probably Sharon Woods - on June 17th.  Now that we have you "hooked" on the idea, check back for details to "reel" you in.

Memorial Weekend Activities

Memorial Day may be the unofficial start of summer, but most importantly, it's the day we remember the men and women who died while serving in our country's armed forces.  You and your scout have several opportunities this Memorial Day weekend to show respect to those brave soldiers.

Operation Flag will take place on May 27th at 8.30 AM at Union Cemetery (the West side).  Scouts will gather for a short, but moving ceremony before placing flags at the headstones of veterans in the cemetery.

PLEASE WEAR FULL UNIFORM FOR THIS EVENT!

Another fun opportunity for your scout is marching in the Worthington Memorial Parade on Memorial Day itself. Patrick Long will be sending out an email with more information on this event.

Recycling Scout Gear - A Scout is Thrifty

A Scout is many things according to the Scout law - one of those things is "thrifty"

Our May Pack meeting will be held at Spring Camp-out. This is when many of our scouts move up to the next rank (from Tiger to Wolf, Wolf to Bear, Bear to Webelos) When this happens you may find yourself in possession of neckerchiefs, slides, year pins, etc, that your scout no longer needs. We would love to "recycle" these items and pass them on to other scouts that have need of them!

Please note this is a voluntary recycling. You are not required to turn in/share your items, but it would help scouts who may face financial difficulty and help offset Pack costs for advancements and rewards.
